I've been enjoying your latest posts about fighting fantasy. 2e was my original dnd, I bypassed any earlier versions, and I stopped buying things after the core books. Just modules and magazines. I've read a few of the splat books and there's some good ideas in them. I guess the problem is what to allow (how many books... Like maybe just the classes books). I do find that there is a lot of good material in the phb. Material that I never got a chance to really work with. shanepatrickwardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09779728578574223142noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7197491578009817539.post-45050667799048668852019-06-25T17:11:21.388-07:002019-06-25T17:11:21.388-07:00@Scott ever tried roll20 its quite fun@Scott ever tried roll20 its quite funshanepatrickwardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09779728578574223142noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7197491578009817539.post-19054279206326920052019-06-25T01:43:57.551-07:002019-06-25T01:43:57.551-07:002e was *my* AD&D (though BECMI was my D&D)...2e was *my* AD&D (though BECMI was my D&D), and I still think that the core game is a top notch version of D&D - cleaner than 1e, far less crunchy and dependent on system mastery than 3e or 4e.

I even think that 'kits' were a good idea... but not implemented as well as it could have been. A Fighter is a Fighter is a Fighter, that's how D&D could feel to us back in the day. But what if one is a 'Peasant Hero', another a 'Gladiator', and a third is a 'Swashbuckler'.

Really, should have been just a 'pack' of starting equipment, weapon proficiencies and non-weapon proficiences and some colour text. No new rules. But that wouldn't sell books.
