Quick Review - The Lair of Largash the Lurid

I had an oppurtunity to look over "The Lair of Largash the Lurid" yesterday afternoon.  A new "pay what you want module" from Canister & Grape .  This module appears to be their first outing publishing a adventure.

Here is the premise:

Largash the Lurid, scourge of the common folk and self-appointed king beneath the rocky hills, lurks deep within his lair. Who dares enter his realm to unthrone this most evil of monarchs? Can your brave party of adventurers defeat Largash the Lurid and his evil minions once and for all?
This module is a complete adventure including maps, descriptive text, background information and encounter notes.

The adventure is labeled as a "introductory adventure for levels 1 -3".  Reading thru it, there are a few deadly encounters for 1st level characters, which is easily adjustable.  The authors included a section about adjusting the monsters in the case that it becomes too difficult.  Its based on 4 - 8 PC's levels 1 to 3.  If I ran it I would normally have 2 PC's and a few hirelings, so I may loose a few encounters or tweak HP's, etc.

The artwork is sparse but great! very cool old school vibe.  All of the images within the module are black & white.  I really adore the cover art.

This module could make for the start of a fun campaign.  As its not set anywhere specifically it can be easily tweaked to any game world.  I dig adventures like this! All of my own adventures have built in a similar way.

The maps are nice and effective, easy to read.  There however are not a lot of twists and turns.  The map is laid out very square.  Not a big deal at all.  Actually it would make it easy for a newb GM to run.

IMHO - GET IT! There's lots of fun stuff and a few tongue in cheek things that happen.

Its "Pay What You Want" get it here

  2. No problem! Keep up the good work Michael. If I get a chance to run it, I'll give a better playtest review.
